The collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Art is so expansive and varied, we went back for a second visit. They had the big names—Seurat, Van Gogh, Goya, Close, O’Keeffe, Magritte—and tons of pieces by unnamed master artisans from ancient China, Japan, Burma, etc, etc, etc.
A highlight was the period rooms, which were so well constructed you truly felt like you were in other buildings.
A note to my family: Another cool thing was that MIA offers is the book tour, where they take you around and discuss a small sample of pieces based on a book. Guess what the book for July is…MAISIE DOBBS. This portrait was selected to represent Celia (the focus of her first case). At each piece, our guide read us quotes from Maurice. I kid you not.
